KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine and is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, and once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. This results in a noticeable reduction in fullness. 

When injected into fat, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected. 

This is one of the most frequently asked questions. Everyone’s chin profile is different. The amount of fat in the area, the size of the area, and your desired results will influence the number of injections you need during each session as well as the total number of sessions required. We will determine how many sessions you need based on the previously mentioned factors.

Treatment sessions are given one month apart, and the total number of treatments patients receive is no more than six. Whether you will require the full six-sessions for treatment or not will depend on the results you’re expecting. For most patients, two to four sessions will be enough to see significant change and achieve the results they want.
